I’m rather confused by this comment. The comparisons here are 16-month-old comparisons between Orbited 0.2/0.3 and other Comet solutions. You’d clearly only want to use Orbited if you need and are willing to deploy the network architecture of a Comet application. If you aren’t willing to adapt your network to support real-time apps, then you aren’t the target developer for Orbited.

As for app language though, Orbited—and particularly since 0.5—is completely language-agnostic. Feel free to make your back-end server in any language you like: Java, C#, Ruby, whatever. Installing Python and Twisted to run Orbited shouldn’t be too rough a requirement: both can be installed in a matter of minutes on any reasonable operating system.

Jacob Rus:

I think you should do better homework before making any comparisons if anything you say is to be taken seriously.
Orbited is is all good for fun chat application, but would I want to use Orbited just so I can pretend I have a socket in the browser?
Short answer: NO
Pushing Orbited as a server side solution for browser based-apps is a big strategic mistake from business point of view.
Application dependencies on libraries and frameworks is one thing, but having to reconfigure network infrastructure to accommodate Orbited on the server side to make things possible is quite another thing.
And of course you need to install Python ad Twisted too.....

And looking at Orbited's chat (live help) code, 30 lines of code for chat sounds like a grave understatement.

For me Orbited solution is no solution at all unless your app is based on Python, in other words Orbited is asking for too much. ( exception of python apps.

Grzegorz:

I've added an “update” to the post, which should clarify that I had misunderstood the FdAjax minichat example. I'll take a deeper look at FdAjax sometime soon.

FdAjax allows to send directly to other users a string or a number. Moreover even this option can be disabled. It is up to a developer what he will do with that string. This is completely different from what Jacob Rus claims about FdAjax here in this post.

On Refwell blog there is example chat application which uses direct user to user communication. Mr Jacob Rus, please provide a proof that you can do what you described in you blog post. Otherwise I'll have to treat your post simply as FUD.
