Introducing Hookbox

July 26th, 2010 by Michael Carter

As some of you may know, I’ve been working on an alternate comet/websocket/web-push server called Hookbox for the past year. The goal of the project is to expose much higher-level APIs than Orbited, and provide tight integration with existing web technologies, like Django, Pylons, PHP, Rails, Java Servlets, etc. Hookbox makes the most of WebSocket-enabled browers, and falls back on Comet Session Protocol for older browsers and reverse proxies.

Please take a look at A Fast Introduction to Hookbox, an article/tutorial that I just published on Comet Daily. I hope that you’ll find the technology to be much more approachable than anything else out there.

Feedback is very welcome.
